In 1969, Natalie Kusz and her family abandoned the city, packed up the car, and headed to Alaska. They ended up a hundred miles from Fairbanks in a dilapidated house surrounded by 258 acres of spruce, birch and willow - and no road. When the first winter came - with Mr. Kusz working in Prudhoe Bay, money running out, and temperatures 60 below - the Kusz family was living so close to disaster that the question was not when it would strike but whom. 1. Sometimes all it takes to make the world a better place is a small act of kindness.... When Ceri Price arrives in the small seaside village of Dwynwen in West Wales, she only means to stay for a couple of nights - long enough to scatter her mother´s ashes and then go back to her life as a successful makeup entrepreneur. But a case of mistaken identities means she lands a job as the barmaid in the local pub, unexpectedly finds friendship and wonders if love might follow.... But when the plans for a new housing estate put the local woodland under threat, she fears the way of life here could disappear. Then mysterious acts of kindness start springing up around the village - a string of bunting adorns the streets, a new village signpost appears out of nowhere and someone provides paint to spruce up the houses on the seafront. Who is behind these acts of kindness, and can they help in the race to save the village from the faceless developers? Welcome to Dwynwen: Village of Love. Where friendship flourishes and love blossoms.... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Lowri Walton. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/orio/001232/bk_orio_001232_sample.mp3. The village lay under two feet of snow, with drifts at the windy corners. In a sky of iron the points of the Dipper hung like icicles and Orion flashed his cold fires. The moon had set, but the night was so transparent that the white house-fronts between the elms looked gray against the snow, clumps of bushes made black stains on it, and the basement windows of the church sent shafts of yellow light far across the endless undulations.Young Ethan Frome walked at a quick pace along the deserted street, past the bank and Michael Eady´s new brick store and Lawyer Varnum´s house with the two black Norway spruces at the gate. Opposite the Varnum gate, where the road fell away toward the Corbury valley, the church reared its slim white steeple and narrow peristyle. As the young man walked toward it the upper windows drew a black arcade along the side wall of the building, but from the lower openings, on the side where the ground sloped steeply down to the Corbury road, the light shot its long bars, illuminating many fresh furrows in the track leading to the basement door, and showing, under an adjoining shed, a line of sleighs with heavily blanketed horses.
Welcome to Burton, Georgia, a small town just west of Savannah. In this farm community, the women are sassy, the men are sexy, and happily ever afters are a specialty of the house. Elizabeth Hudson has one goal in mind for this holiday season: ignore it. With her complicated family, non-existent love life, and demanding job, skipping Christmas seems like the best plan ever. Until a Christmas tree lot pops up just outside her office, run by the hot and hunky Trent Wagoner. Trent took this job because he needed to get away from life in his small Georgia hometown. Hauling a truckload of Douglas firs and blue spruces from his uncle´s farm in Michigan to sell in Florida sounded like the perfect plan to find the space he needs and finally get his life on track. Neither Trent nor Elizabeth planned on the instant sparks of attraction between them. But no matter how hard they fight it, something unexpected - and wonderful - may show up beneath the Christmas tree this year. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Alisa Baker.
